Tip calculator

Enter the bill, the tip you want to leave and how many people share it.

Calculated in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent or stored.

About this tool: Tip calculator

Tipping customs differ by country. In some places 10% is generous, in others 15% to 20% is expected, and in much of Europe rounding up is common. The calculator works with any percentage, so you can use the local custom.

Splitting the bill is included: the total with tip is divided equally between the people you enter.

Formula

Tip = bill × tip% ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Each person pays = total ÷ number of people.

Worked example

A bill of 80 with a 10% tip for 2 people: tip 8, total 88, so each person pays 44 and leaves 4 in tips.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I tip?

It depends on the country and the service. Check the local custom: in many European countries a service charge is already included, and in the United States 15% to 20% is normal.

Is the tip calculated on the bill with or without VAT?

Usually on the bill as printed, which includes VAT. Enter that amount.

Can I split the bill unevenly?

This tool splits equally. For uneven shares, calculate each person's part of the bill and tip it separately.
